Peacemaking in the three centuries between Columbus and the American Revolution saw many forms. These included the survivals of pre-contact Amerindian rituals , prophetic missionary work of Las Casas, Montesinos and the Franciscans in Central America , the Jesuits in Canada , the Franciscan missions in California , and the arrival of the Protestant peace churches from Europe.
